Finding Accurate Bathroom Scales

Many people are now turning to home bathroom scales in their struggle for weight loss and as they strive for a healthier life style. But it's no good using bathroom scales if they don't give you an accurate assessment of your weight. How can you make sure you are using accurate bathroom scales?

There are two kinds of bathroom scales: digital scales and mechanical scales (also known as analogue). However the most accurate are the electronic scales. Since mechanical scales have moving parts and a spring that can little by little be stretched over time with heavy use, they can gradually wear out and begin to report inaccurate body weight.

Digital scales, on the other hand, are normally electrical and have no moving parts, and is therefore much less prone to gradual degradation of the measurements it reports.

Digital scales are also generally much easier to read -- instead of having to decide precisely where a needle is pointing, you simply look at the numbers appearing on the display! These numbers are also normally lit up to improve readability, and on some digital scales the results appear in a display at waist level, so you don't have to squint to bend down if your eyesight is not what it used to be!

Another type of accuracy increasingly available with digital bathroom scales is an analysis of body fat percentage, which it measures by sending small electric currents up one leg and down the other -- but don't worry, they use a tiny current that you don't even feel. If you program the scales with your height, then they can also provide you with an estimate of your BMI (body mass index) -- you can see this used in medical reports.

One further point about accuracy: it's all very well the scales being accurate, but if you don't use them properly then the accuracy of your scales is spurious -- in order to make sure your weight is measured accurately you should always weigh yourself in the morning before breakfast but after going to the toilet. You should try to make the conditions the same, and the easiest way to do that is yo weigh yourself with no clothes on.

So make sure that you pick accurate bathroom scales, that you use them properly, and you will be well on the way to winning your battle against your weight!
